Today was a very big day.

One of my 2 brothers and his family arrived in Holland today from New Zealand!!!

Well actually I must be precise and say its brother Erik, his wife Dora and 2 nearly grown up sons Bryce and Blair.

I hadn’t sent them in 14 years. 14 YEARS!!! When I say it, it sounds long, when I see it written down while typing this it looks unbelievable!!!

The strange thing is that it feels like yesterday that I last saw them, not 14 years ago. To me they look the same and it sure feels the same. It’s like picking up the conversation as if nothing happened. It’s a very comfortable feeling.

I have 2 brothers living in New Zealand. When my other brother came over a few years ago I felt such a bond with him that it took my breath away how much it hurt when he left. Now I realize that this is going to happen again with this brother. Actually with the whole family that is attached to these 2 silly brothers…..

We hardly speak to each other. Communicating across all those miles isn’t easy at the best of times, and we are a lot of lazy writers/callers so its even less. I’m lucky one of my sister in laws is and enthusiastic writher and keeps “us lazy one’s” up to date with each other and occasionally Dora and I meet on MSN and have a natter about nothing and everything.

And today I find myself on a walk with people I haven’t met for so long and I’m not lost for words.

I guess what I want to say is that family really is different. The bond is just there, even if you don’t do a thing to keep up communication it rushes back as soon as you meet again.

I have learnt another lesson in life today… And its going to hurt like hell when they leave. And I’ll feel home sick again for a while till life gets back to “normal” again.

But we have nearly 2 weeks a head of us, so for now it’s live and enjoy. The weather Gods seem to be going to do there best for us to make things even better!

Tomorrow we begin on there list of “things we want to do in Holland” and visit a reptile zoo. One of my nephews wants to see snakes. In New Zealand there are no snakes so now’s the time to look them up. I must admit that this wish hasn’t ever come up in my head, but I’m rather looking forward to going too.

The reptile zoo is in Delft so if we have time left over it’s also a nice place to do other touristy things. At the very least I’m sure we’ll find time to grab a drink somewhere and enjoy the view ;-)
